Stages/symptoms of Bubonic Plague (Yersinia Pestis)

1/Person experiences nausea, vomiting, body aches. The bacteria (Yersinia Pestis) attacks the lymph nodes, rapidly damaging the immune system. 2/Lymph nodes beginning to swell. Swellings were called Buboes (tender, enlarged lymph nodes under the armpits, in the neck, or in the groin, ranging in size from 1 to 10 cm) also… diarrhea, vomiting, chills, fever, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, broken blood vessles. 3/the fatal stage Septicimia occurs when bacteria (Yersinia Pestis) invade the blood stream— nausea, vomiting, rapid heart rate, delirium, headache, chills, fever, death.

most notable/disarming characteristic of the Bubonic Plague were the buboes (swollen lymph nodes) that appeared as giant blisters that were burning, painful, hard lumps that would turn black and split open.

a corruption of the body— attaching the bodies defense (lymph) and turning them into an enabler of the disease…

Something to think about: How do the stages/symptoms of this disease work with the play and its themes/structure?.. focusing on delirium— corruption of the mind /// buboes— corruption of the physical appearance, and natural defense system
